First time when I visited the UK and was involved in doing group work. I have a good experience working in a group. Initially, I faced various problems as I don’t have any prior experience of working in the construction sector. It took some time for me to learn the techniques to achieve the common objective of the group. Working in the group has provided me with the broad opportunity to learn different tasks from various stakeholders of the project. The team includes an engineer, an architect, a laborer, a designer, the owner, and the investor of the project. Working in a team creates a synergic effect that allows the finishing of the project efficiently and effectively (Ayhan and Tokdemir, 2019). I have collaborated effectively with the other members of the team which will help in solving various project aspects. Effective interactions help in solving various misunderstandings of the project and produce a better outcome without any errors or flaws. Working with the team has improved the quality of the construction work quality. This helps in improving the work quality, efficient utilization of resources, generating better decisions and ideas, and enhancing accountability. I have participated actively and have contributed significantly to achieving the project goals. However, the occurrence of conflicting situations is unavoidable but this outweighs the advantages gained due to the presence of more heads. This will ultimately lead to project success. The resources are used in the construction industry, which helped in yielding of the required project results. I have learned how to use construction resources efficiently which will reduce material consumption without affecting the output of the project (Su, 2021). Teamwork that brings different solutions to a particular em and the most appropriate solution is chosen. Better ideas have been generated that help in the better making of decisions. Several ideas are generated from different minds of the group and thus help in making the best decision. Systematic operations help in building effective business construction and lead to the emergence of better innovations.
I have shared my views and opinions related to the problems that have been raised while working in the team. My views are appreciated, as it was effective in improving communication among the team members. Working with different members of the team has provided me the opportunity to learn a different task from a different person. This has also enhanced the sense of accountability and responsibility (He et al. 2020). Accountability poses a heavy burden on the involved person. Formal communication within the team allows the persons to perform tasks as per the allocation. To achieve the project objectives, teamwork is essential, as construction projects are complex. Teamwork that helps in the effective execution of different project tasks. It also helps in achieving the goals of the project within the timeline and budget. I have acquired different skills and developed my knowledge, which has improved the quality and efficiency of the work as a whole.
The difficulties I faced while working in the team are communication skills. Initially, it was difficult for me to interact with people as I am fearful of asking questions. Slowly, I started building relationships with people and now I don’t hesitate to ask anything. I have improved my interactive skills which have provided me with a wider opportunity to learn different skills and gain enough knowledge (Lombardi et al. 2019). I have learned to operate machinery and tools and also different technologies. I have learned software that boosts the productivity of the work. I have learned about different safety protocols which are required to be followed while working. Due to a lack of expertise, I have issues with time management which causes some difficulty. But the other members helped me with my work and taught me different techniques and thus I have improved my efficiency of work. In this way, I improved my performance which will in turn enhance the productivity of the team as a whole (Duryan et al. 2020). I have learned how to use the resources of the construction project effectively using fewer amounts and generating greater output. This in turn helps in reducing the project cost. The teamwork has enhanced my work flexibility and molded me to adapt to the situation and work effectively. I also helped my juniors that have helped me to examine my skills and improve further. I have learned to work according to the plan that will help to achieve the overall goals of the project within the budget and time. In this way, group work has taught me different skills which can be applied to other aspects of life. [Referred to Appendix 1]
I am sharing a previous assignment made by the native assignment. I have greater experience while making that particular assignment. Initially, it was problematic to understand the requirement of the assignment. I read the requirements but it was totally out of my mind. Then, I read and reread it, which has helped me to understand the requirements of the assignments more effectively and perform the task in a better way (Shohet et al. 2019). I have faced challenges while solving the problem but this has opportunities to learn new things and excel in my knowledge and skills. The more I solve the problem it boosts my experience and confidence. It has provided me the opportunity to practice, learn and demonstrate the learning goals. It has engaged my mind more in studying and working and is focused more. I have learned different software for the project and enhanced my skills. While performing the assignment I have learned the way to conduct a research work on the concerned topic and data compromise for improving the information of the provided task. It has provided me the opportunity to have knowledge of diverse topics, comparing facts and the related concepts of the project. The assignment has helped me to apply the concepts that I have learned. It enhances the process of learning. It boosts knowledge and helps in the development of practical skills and improves the base.
I faced difficulties while making the assignment. The challenges involved in performing the assignment, include improper management of time, and the habit of proofreading, difficulties in writing assignments, poor thought organization are the common issues faced while performing the assignments. The other issues faced are deficiency of evidence, inappropriate structure, unawareness of target audiences, and weak analysis. This has caused several issues at the initial stages. But, I have worked on my skills to improve them and achieve the targets. Effective management of time is required in order to achieve any aim.
The assignment has improved my cognitive skills. I have worked on my research skills and the information is used for the particular type of task. This has provided me with knowledge of diverse topics, comparing facts and related concepts that are understood in a better way. The information is processed and retaining the knowledge is crucial. This enhances the activity of the brain and thus allows cognitive growth. I have gained sufficient knowledge and developed my thoughts concerning the topic. Proper research provides a greater insight into the topic and the process of learning is enriched. Continuous learning enhances knowledge on various topics. Expanding my learning horizon has made me expertise with time. I have also improved my writing pattern. I have written the entire assignment by taking guidance. This has helped me to improve my writing pattern and error correction. I have also improved my grammar skills and enhanced my writing speed. In this way, I have improved my writing skills and thus raised my confidence level. The focus of the study is improved due to performing assignments. This has helped me to enhance my skills and abilities due to learning and implementing new concepts and in this way, I improved my focus on the study. This helps in quick learning of the process and better work quality is obtained. Different tactics of the organization and plans are established (KALE, and Baradan, 2020). Task planning is crucial in every process that helps in obtaining the desired project objectives within the given time. I have organized my workflow as per the given assignment. This process has helped me toward the building of the required skills and to achieve them as per requirement without any hassle. It also has improved my techniques by adapting to the advanced process. This has ultimately expanded the research horizon. Figure 1: Feedback Process
On October 26, 2022, I visited the Oxford Rhodes house, where the renovation work is being carried out. The experiences are being elaborated effectively. Renovation is the improvement process of the old, defective, or damaged building structure. This provides me with knowledge of the different types of defects that can occur in the building over some time. Different steps are involved in carrying out the repair work of the building. Finance is required for the process of renovation of the building. Lenders are chosen who will provide the required mortgage for the project. These are the payment mortgages that allow releasing of the funds at different milestones for project delivery. I have performed a detailed assessment of the entire building structure. This helped me to find the cracks and flaws in the process and the possible reason for the occurrence of such flaws and the remedies to be taken to eliminate the flaws. I have learned different things from the chartered surveyors who are involved in the identification of the essential repairs to carry out further research work. This helps in the identification of the construction type used in the entire structure which helps in deciding the suitable redesign and other techniques of construction. I have attended the building survey that helped me to find out some issues which I have raised in front of the Surveyor to find out the proper solution for the same. The building is not in as good a condition and requires immediate steps to recover it from further failure. The dampness in the building will get accelerated due to slipped tiles, and broken windows. As the property is emptied, this enhances the susceptibility towards theft and trespassing. Therefore it is necessary to secure the property and make it watertight before initiating the work (Pandit et al. 2019). In this way, I have learned different things while visiting the renovation site. It is required to pose insurance coverage over the public liability and insurance for protecting the building against fire, construction work, and other damages.
To carry out the work of structure, the present building is made stable first. The different works of the structure are done according to the regulation of the building. The building is protected from different damages with the use of boards and plastic sheets. I have learned about different fixings of building construction. Visiting the site has helped me to learn the different processes that are involved in the building repair. The work of renovation is crucial which allows the effective operation of the building. However, there are different costs involved with the renovation project, which include valuation and survey costs, the cost for property acquisition, finance costs, travel costs, legal costs, planning permission, approval for building renovation, and other equipment. A backup plan is required for the budget management.
This site visit has provided me with a wide knowledge of the importance of the renovation process. Renovation of the building is done in an effective way. There are certain pitfalls that are considered during the renovation process. Controlling the cost is essential as the construction industry incurs a huge charge. In old properties, it is required construction and repair without proper replacements. Problem-solving project is kept down and different misunderstandings are avoided regarding details and it is required to communicate properly with the builder and client (Loosemore and Malouf, 2019). It has helped me gain several experiences in the process of management of different tasks and how to take the proper business decisions. Only a few materials are ordered with the aim to reduce the cost. However, ordering extra materials can incur additional costs and other time delays. Budgets are optimistic in nature as it is required to perform the entire repair work. It is a risky process as it is less predictable in nature in comparison to a new build that has several hidden costs, which are not considered in the original budget. The project cost rose but the requirements are not satisfied. It is required to give more focus on the structural issues neglecting the other aspects of the project. They have followed the strategy of repair but not replacement which may incur the most cost of the renovation project. The period of retention of the product is cheaper than replacing it and thus adding property characteristics. They have focused on using the correct material for construction that has quality rather than eliminating cheap materials. This helps in obtaining the desired results of the project.
After reviewing the incidents and the experiences through my personal attitudes toward the process, I have recognized the potential areas of significant improvement. All these areas of improvement would be effective as regards my future areas of skill attribution exploring greater enhancement in order to achieve better excellence in addressing the challenges and risks. One of the most critical aspects that I should consider is related to the effective communication approaches which identify the greater relationships with the enhanced performance. In both my incidents of group work and assignment I acknowledged the consideration of effective communication with the practicing of listening and discussion. In the specific assignment section , I recognized the contextual aspect of the improvement area related to effective time management. In this regard, I should prioritize tasks based on the efficacy and relevancy of the detailed management practices (Meng et al. 2021). Based on the feedback of the specific assignment, I have identified the need for the improvements of exploring diversified resources with the synthesis action of the different analytical and research-oriented practices. Throughout my process of the incidents, it is well represented that proactive learning proves to be of greater significance as regards addressing the challenges for enhancing my learning journey. So continuous feedback and incorporation of new skill attribution would contribute immensely to my improvements. So far my visit to the site is concerned, I have acknowledged the potential areas of improvement in accuracy, and proficiency in achieving greater deliverables of professionalism. Considering the detailing of the incident requirements and articulating the possible improvements, I will develop my professional capabilities in achieving greater success and future endeavors. Integrating all these possible improvements would be effective in my continuous self-enhancement and capability increase while dealing with the challenges and tasks in achieving a greater success and personal growth.
Different concepts are discussed regarding effective management of the construction work. This reflective portfolio has helped to understand the knowledge gained through the different incidents of the project. The difficulties faced while the occurrence of different incidents is discussed effectively in the entire study process. I have learned several skills and techniques that have improved my management skills and improved my work quality. I have improved my communication skills, cognitive skills, analytical skills, and logical reasoning. This skill was helpful in achieving the target of the project in an effective manner. This has improved my research skills to obtain the required work quality. Project planning is done to obtain the desired objective of the project. This also helps in obtaining the achieving the targets of the project within the time and budget (Winge et al. 2019). This taught me to utilize the resources efficiently which involves using only the required amounts of resources to obtain the objectives. In this way, the entire process is improved in an effective way. Better work clarity is obtained and effective analysis is needed to obtain the solution. It has helped me to learn different techniques, tools, and software that will enhance the work accuracy, and quality and make the process faster. In this way, this helps maintain the quality of the work for the project.
I have learned several things from the incidents. It makes me aware of the important group work, assignments, feedback, and renovation. My mental abilities have improved as a result of the task. My ability to conduct research has improved, and the data is employed for the specific kind of activity. This has given me information on a vay of subjects, allowing me to compare data and understand connected ideas more clearly. Retaining the knowledge is essential after the information has been digested. This increases brain activity and promotes cognitive development. I've learned enough about the subject and have formed some opinions. A deeper understanding of the subject and an improved learning experience are both provided by a thorough investigation. Continuous learning improves subject-matter knowledge. The completion of assignments improves the study's focus. I was able to learn and apply new concepts, which enhanced my concentration on the study, and it helped me to develop my skills and abilities. This facilitated quick process learning and improved work quality. The organization has devised various plans and methods. Every process that aids in achieving the targeted project objectives within the allotted period needs task planning. In accordance with the assigned tasks, I have organized my workflow.
Renovation is the process of fixing an outdated, flawed, or damaged building structure. This enables me to understand the various kinds of flaws that may develop in the structure over time. The building's repair work is carried out in a number of steps. For the building's renovation procedure, funding is necessary (Shao et al. 2022). Lenders are picked to offer the project's required mortgage. These are the payment mortgages that permit the release of funds at various project delivery milestones. I have thoroughly evaluated the entire building's structure. This made it easier for me to see the process's weaknesses and fissures, as well as the causes and potential solutions for them.
The assignment has also helped me become more analytical and logical. This enables rational thought and critical evaluation. It aided in the improvement of my work's clarity and the formation of the necessary perspective on the subject at hand. My time management abilities were also enhanced by the assignment. I became wary of the time value at the time of the study as a result. A deadline is established to aid in efficient time management. I used my time efficiently and finished my assignment on time. This method has aided me in developing the necessary talents and achieving them without difficulty in accordance with the requirements. Adjusting to the sophisticated procedure, it has also helped me get better at what I do. In the end, this broadened the research horizon. Different subjects are investigated, various sorts of knowledge are obtained on various project aspects, and the necessary data are gathered for the particular kind of assignment. Effective research has enabled us to gather relevant data from a variety of sources and identify the right facts for the project.
Communication skills were the challenges I encountered when participating in the team. I struggled at first to interact with others because I was shy around inquiries. I gradually began forming relationships with people, and these days I don't hold back when I ask questions. My ability to connect with others has improved, giving me more opportunities to master various skills and accumulate sufficient knowledge. I now know how to use many technologies, tools, and machinery (Shi et al., 2022). I now know about the software that increases work productivity. I now know about several safety procedures that must be followed when working. I have trouble managing my time because I don't have much experience in this area, which is problematic. However, the other team members gave me assistance and taught me new skills, which enhanced my work efficiency. I increased my performance in this way, which will boost the team's overall production. I now know how to efficiently employ the resources of the construction project to produce more with less input. This ultimately aids in cutting the project's cost. The teamwork has improved my ability to adapt to the environment and operate efficiently. I also assisted my underclassmen in helping me assess my abilities and continue to develop them. I've learned to follow the plan in order to complete the project's overall objectives on schedule and within budget.
Providing feedback on the assignment helps me with problem identification and ways to mitigate it. This, in turn, helps to sharpen my knowledge and to stick to a particular matter of the problem. This will help in the improvement of the situation and is required to obtain the desired results of the process (Alkhazi et al. 2020). This helps in improving the professional growth of the person. This basically improved my observational skills and helped me find solutions for improvement. It helps to keep track of the task's performance. It prevents it from getting misaligned and wasting time, resources, and energy.
In this way, I have learned several skills that have helped me significantly to improve my skills. Different approaches are taken into consideration to mitigate the effects of the incidents caused. Incidents of high potential that left a deep impression on the mind and what is learned from that remain in the mind for a long duration. When an incident is faced, that involves analysis of the incidents for improvement of the barriers, and structured improvements are made throughout the organization. Some theories are described on the basis of which the incidents are being solved. These are as follows:
Figure 2: Theory for construction management
Different theories and models are used to solve the issues of the incident. This has basically helped in improving different skills like communication, negotiation skills, and conflict management (Scharp et al. 2020). This has allowed group work and learning different techniques from them. Working on the assignment has enhanced my problem-solving abilities, boosted my level of confidence, and enhanced my reasoning skills. The theory is a framework that helps in solving different aspects of the management of the project.
The incidents have taught various new ideas for the project. Different theories are utilized in the entire process. Translational theory builds a close relationship between humans and the phenomena they observe, which becomes an inseparable part of it. Translation process that brought individuals and societies together and performs effective communication (Ahmad et al. 2021). I have learned various concepts of management including organizing, planning, controlling, directing, and staffing. Representation and innovation are required for project management. Effective communication skills are required for project purposes.
