In the modern world, it is required for individuals to possess academic skills to analyse and comprehend academic understanding and learning. Higher academic learning requires skills, especially in the discipline of business and tourism management. Skills for business and tourism management are essential as they benefit individuals and organizations to develop plans, strategies, and actions. It also benefits an individual to enhance their confidence, self-esteem levels, and knowledge about the services. Skills make the employee efficient in this matter, and travelers are aided with full potentiality. It is often considered to be fundamental to muster these skills, especially in the higher education scenario as it not only helps to comprehend and understand the academic themes but also provides competitive benefits in the job market. The essay here will analyze various skills like research, planning, note-taking, referencing, and proofreading skills, with special emphasis on three of these skills. The essay will strengthen its focus on research, note-taking, and planning skills for further analysis.
The skills that I will be analysing here are mentioned above, and this paragraph will focus on the research skills that will not only improve the academic writing style but would also benefit students to be more efficient employees (Gallagher, 2016). Research skills are considered to be one of the basic skills that are significant to deploy and utilize in academic activities, especially in the Higher Education environment. Research skills are difficult to develop and require other skills, for instance, patience and concentration to complement them. Research skills in individuals make them capable of understanding the disciple better and in a comprehensive manner. Research skills enable students, as per my experience, to search for information and data and to systematically apply it to the subject matter as per requirement. These skills have particularly helped me make a distinction between various subject matters and also helped me to be selective about the information (Pender, and Sharpley, 2005). With my research skills, I can now select and identify significant and essential data against the pool of information that has been provided. This skill, in my opinion, will improve the quality of academic writing as it will enable one to select the best data and reflect them in the writing. The research skills I have developed in the course will benefit me to do extensive research in my high studies of business and tourism management degree. Not only studies, but research skills will also provide me with career opportunities as it will be able to identify and select the best options that are available for jobs (Williams, and Carroll, 2009). I will be able to deploy my research skills to improve my performance drive within the organisation I will be working in. with research skills I will be able to excel in guiding the tourists, providing them with suggestions and strategies based on my research and investigation. Previously without developing research skills I was facing extreme difficulty to sort the information according to its importance (Godfrey, 2017). However, with enhanced research skills, my future action plan for a job and higher studies will be enriched.

The second skill that is required in improving academic writing and excelling in the Business and Tourism Management Degree is note-taking. Note-taking is the process of transforming verbal information into written information. This enables an individual to be efficient and helps them to remember a theme for a long time (Bedford, and Wilson, 2020). However, developing this skill, as per my experience requires other values, likely patience, concentration, and must be efficiency in writing. I have developed this skill over a long period, and it has impacted my academic writing. Note-taking significantly helps individuals to select the required materials as per their requirements, and also aids to take down the important themes pointed out by the educational instructors. For improving academic writing, note-taking is significant as it essentially helps to organise ideas and educational theories in a single place (Buhalis, 2020). It also helps to develop a plan and include the essential points of a subject matter in the writing. The development of this skill took time, however, mastering this skill benefits academic understanding and comprehension at a different level. Note-taking as per experience does not only help one in their academic career but also benefits their job prospectus. Note-taking skill helps me to be attentive, and this quality is considered to be fundamental in the employment criteria. Note-taking will help me to be concentrated on the meetings and will benefit me to remember the job goals. With it, one can track their growth with the task assigned, and will also help to analyse the significance of various data available. One can opt for multiple career goals after the completion of their Business and Tourism Management Degree, for instance, travel journalists, bloggers, and travel writers (Cottrell, 2019). For these career goals, note-keeping skills form the foundational base. By note-taking, I can develop my provide to my clients and job role the best investigated and researched information that will significantly serve them their purpose.
The third and last skill that will be discussed here in the essay is planning. Planning is a conglomeration of several other factors and in a joint venture, this skill is considered to be another fundamental one in improving academic writing. Planning includes identification, sorting, understanding, and ultimately implementing a bunch of ideas and data as per the requirement of the discipline (Evans, 2019). Planning to improve my academic writing has benefited me in an immensely positive manner. I have been disorganized by the lack of segmenting data and information in the course before writing, however, after developing this skill for some time, I have been successfully identifying and chronologically and systematically listing down the essential information required for the work. This has benefitted me by increasing my work drive, concentration and efficiency which has been getting reflected in my academic gradation. Planning will also provide me backups in my job roles in the future, as it will help me to organise several works at the same time. It will help individuals to reach deadlines before the stipulated time with ease (Novelli, 2022). With this skill, I will be able to plan and organise destination programs and events related to tourism that my job and clients will demand from me. As a student of this course, skilled planning will help me to strategically plan a place's potential tourist hotspot and to increase investments there, which in turn will enhance that region's economic output (Sedgley, 2020). Planning might also benefit me to organise and plan tourism plans by being an efficient guide to the clients. The business also requires planning to manage the financial transactions as per requirement.
