The Impact Of Covid-19 On Mental Case Study

Introduction

The world has faced a havoc outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, created by the novel coronavirus which occurred firstly in the states of China and hence spread all over the world. The primary symptoms of this disease created effects on the respiratory systems of human beings which resulted in a large number of deaths. The pandemic was under control after the year 2021 but the effects it had created globally remain the same. Not only adults and elderly people the virus affected kids below 5 years to the young generation below 18 years too. This pandemic not only has created health issues in individuals but also made a deep impact on mental health conditions among all. The overall pandemic has brought some new terms like lockdown, and social distancing which were imposed on all. A devastating number of death cases, a huge outbreak and clinical uncertainties and threats to every individual's life, have been considered the most important and the initiating factors of the mental health crisis. This study has been designed on mental health and a number of papers and articles are reviewed to evaluate the effects of covid-19 pandemic on mental health conditions.

Analysis

The four studies conducted above overall discussion about the mental health issues created by the pandemic situation in the population of the UK. All types of genders and age groups are examined for developing the studies. Three studies were based on the primary quantitative method and only one was based on the secondary quantitative method. The main similarities which were figured out by the studies are, the population was affected heavily both mentally and physically. The mental health issues were large and real-time analyzed in each of the studies. Mental depression, anxiety, and self-developed types of stress are the main issues which were mostly seen in the mental health effects. Similarly, Knolle et al. 2021 added some extra value to the study by analyzing statistically how many percentages of people have general symptoms, and how many have heavy symptoms. The mental health effects also varied from gender to age group. The studies explained that young adults and women are the main victims to face the mental health issues. Additionally, Proto & Quintana-Domeque, 2021 supported the statement and also added there was a gap seen in the British white men. Whereas, Rajkumar, 2020 added that some individual and structural variables are also needed in the system to mitigate the risk factors.

Literature Reflection

The above four studies were derived to evaluate mental health issues in the population of the UK after the covid-19 pandemic. The four studies hypothetically and analytically discussed mental issues but one of the studies, which was conducted by Knolle et al. 2021 was easier to understand and evaluate the whole thing that this study design. The questionnaire was based on mental and physical factors of health created in covid-19 pandemic. The first part of the study included a survey on the health impacts of the corona virus. This part of the study was based on the demographics of the population, infection and clinical symptoms of covid-19, and questions regarding mental and physical health factors only in the UK. Again the second type of study conducted was based on the mental health status in the global range. It uses check lists driven by the symptoms of covid-19 with a range of 27 items. The changes in symptoms were also recorded during the pandemic. The third part of the study contains sub-dimensional changes and subjective differences of every individual. The statistical analysis was much more trusted because of the chi-square test application. This study evaluated thus after the survey that the UK has more infections and symptoms than any other European country. Additionally, the country had experienced an increased number of hardships in its financial and economic growth. The large impact on health factors contributed to the nation's economy and the families of the victims as well. It gives a rise to the psychological symptoms of depression and anxiety. The global severity index was also higher in the UK population. The number of social phobias and trauma was higher in the country also. Though from the questionnaire it was observed that the people of the UK had expected the pandemic will finish soon.

Now, the studies which were taken to evaluate the research, among them study by Banks & Xu, 2020 are seen to be the most challenging and difficult to understand for their numerous numbers of statistic representations and other variables. The sample which was taken for the entire study was very high, so a huge amount of data evaluated made the research more confusing and deviated from the topic. The variable and measurable factors they chose overall were much more complex to understand to carry on the entire report. Thus the conclusion they derived was statistically based but contained a huge number of cases in each sect that can lead the study to create confusion. Hence this study is more challenging.

Conclusion

This report was based on the quantitative as well as qualitative studies that were previously done on the topic. Mental health had been suffered by the Covid-19 pandemic and its long-term effects have been seen in the entire population of the country. The population has suffered from various mental instabilities during the pandemic lockdown and is seen to have depression, anxious, stress and other mental issues developing gradually. The increasing mortality rate in the country also created phobia and trauma effects in the people's minds which also lead to the generation of mental health issues. The healthcare workers who were the frontline fighters in this pandemic have also seen to develop a few clinical issues in them like anxiety or frustrating behaviours. The overall effects were equally distributed but the young generation adults and women suffered largely in this case. The country was seen to experience a drastic fall in the economy and health sectors after this pandemic situation. The psychiatrist and other medical professionals were, much concerned about the mental health challenges and tried to handle the situation with expert skills.
